Humorous Commercials on Pet Ostriches, Pet Boars, Pet Rhinos

Feb 2, 2009 Mia Carter

Pedigree's Super Bowl commercials explored unusual pets like ostriches and boars. But these funny Super Bowl ads also promoted the Pedigree Adoption Drive for pets.

The Super Bowl is known for its interesting and funny commercials — and at a price of $3 million dollars per 30-second commercial spot, it's no wonder the Super Bowl ads are some of the best on the air!

Pet lovers who were watching 2009's Super Bowl XLIII between the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers were sure to enjoy Pedigree's Super Bowl ads.

A Look at Pedigree's Super Bowl Commercials (2009)

Ever wonder what it's like to have a pet rhino? What about a pet ostrich or a pet boar? The Pedigree Super Bowl ads take a look at "unusual" pets as they poke fun at pet ownership.

There's the little old lady Esther and her pet ostrich Bruno who enjoys chasing the mailman and squawking at the neighbors. And who can forget the couple with the pet boar who rides around in the car and conveniently scares away the mother-in-law?

Pedigree also released a series of commercials consisting of spoof "Behind the Scenes" footage for its humorous Super Bowl ad campaign, with the pet owners talking about their unusual pets.

Shelter Dog Adoption: The Underlying Message of Pedigree's 2009 Super Bowl Ads

Each Pedigree Super Bowl ad ends with the suggestion "Maybe you should get a dog."

While these Pedigree Super Bowl commercials were clearly promoting Pedigree's dog foods, the more direct advertisement was for The Pedigree Foundation.

What is The Pedigree Foundation? This non-profit organization was founded by Pedigree with a big yet simple mission: to help dogs.

The Pedigree Foundation's mission statement is this: "Every dog that finds itself in a shelter has a story. Our goal is to help make sure those stories have happy endings. That's why we created The Pedigree Foundation, a 501(c)(3) philanthropic organization dedicated to helping dogs in need find loving homes."

As of February 1, 2009, The Pedigree Foundation had raised $10,000 to help shelter dogs. The fundraising mission for 2009 is set at $1.5 million, with the funds going toward helping homeless dogs living in animal shelters and rescue organizations.

More Websites That Raise Funds for Homeless Pets

In addition to Pedigree, there are other websites that are actively raising donations of pet food.

On FreeKibble.com, visitors answer a dog trivia question and for each person who plays Bow Wow Trivia, the website will donate 10 pieces of Castor and Pollux dog food to an animal shelter.
