5 Christmas Present Ideas for The Animal Lover

Ever struggle for a gift idea for the pet lover in your life? Here are 5 ideas to get you started.

This short list of last minute gift ideas helps take care of all your holiday shopping needs.

  1. Gift Certificate – Gift certificates are usually available from local veterinary clinics, boarding and grooming facilities, obedience trainers, and doggy daycares. There are also pet supply stores that always have gift certificates available. This is a great gift for someone who is difficult to buy for; this way they can use the certificate for something they need.
  2. Pet Glamor Photo – Pet owners love their furry babies and would love to see them fixed up cute in a glamor shot. Taking the dog or cat for a professional picture is a great gift that will be treasured forever.
  3. Pet Supplies – Giving a supply of food or cat litter may sound a little odd, but this is a gift that will be appreciated; especially if given to a poor college student. Check the price of a premium pet food - it is outrageous. Giving something that will be needed and used is always a nice gift. Make sure to check the brand that Fido or Miss Kitty usually eats so as not to cause an upset tummy from switching foods (this would not be a good gift).
  4. Fancy Leash/Collar Set or Carrier – Everyone wants a stylish pooch. Leashes and collars are now available with some bling. A matching leash and collar set is a lot of fun for dog owners, especially if the set shows their personality. Matching leash and collar sets can be found at most department stores. Designer pet stores also carry sets with designer labels like Coach or Gucci. Pet carriers are also a nice gift for cats and small breed dogs. There are many styles to choose from ranging from the traditional plastic carrier to Italian leather with added jewels.
  5. Supplies For A New Pet – Rather then give a new puppy or kitten for Christmas it is a better idea to gather all the supplies that will be needed for a new pet. Giving the supplies allows the new owner to pick the pet that they really want. A new puppy will need a leash/collar, food/water dishes, veterinary check up, and food supply. A new kitty will need a litter box, food/water dishes, veterinary check up, and food/litter supply. If dogs and cats are not on the wish list then try gathering the supplies for a pocket pet or perhaps a fish aquarium.
