Use the DogPile.com search engine and they'll donate money to help rescue homeless dogs, cats and other pets. They call it their Search and Rescue Program.

Many web users automatically visit Google's search engine when they're looking for something on the web. But animal lovers and pet lovers may want to consider switching to a newer search engine - DogPile.com - which makes donations to help homeless animals and other needy pets every time someone visits the site to perform a web search.

What is DogPile.com?

DogPile.com has dubbed itself a "Search and Rescue Engine."

DogPile.com is a search engine website that web surfers can use to conduct searches for millions of topics. DogPile.com compiles search results from several popular search engines, including Google, Yahoo!, Ask and MSN Live, so in essence, DogPile.com users get web search results from several search engines with just one search.

According to DogPile.com, the site "puts the power all the leading search engines together in one search box to deliver the best combined results. The process is more efficient and yields more relevant results."

This form of web search that compiles and combines results from multiple search engines is called "metasearch."

DogPile.com earns money from advertisers on the site and a portion of this money is donated to help needy animals as part of DogPile.com's "Search and Rescue Program." The more visitors who use this search engine website, the more money DogPile.com earns from advertisements, and this means even more money will be donated to help homeless pets.

How Do You Help Homeless Pets By Using DogPile.com?

The DogPile.com "Search and Rescue Program" works by donating a portion of all revenues generated through the internet search engine to animal rescue organizations which help homeless dogs, cats and other pets.

Using the DogPile.com costs nothing to website visitors, so animal lovers can essentially help raise funds for homeless and needy animals without spending any money.

According to DogPile.com, "Each time a user goes to Dogpile.com to search the Internet, a portion of the revenue generated will be donated to rescue animals. Our goal is to raise $1 million by the end of 2009.

"You’ll be helping pets just by doing what you already do – search the Internet. Dogpile gives you one-click access to the best results on the web...Just make us your preferred search engine. It's free. It’s easy. And it’s one small change that could make a big difference in the lives of animals."

DogPile.com visitors can see exactly how much money is raised for animals by checking the fundraising counter on the top right corner of the website's search page.

How Do I Use DogPile.com?

There are a couple of options for animal lovers who would like to help support the Search and Rescue Program, thereby helping homeless pets with every internet search they perform using DogPile.com.

Web surfers who would like to help homeless pets are encouraged to bookmark DogPile.com, which can then be visited each time the web user needs to "Google something."

Once the web surfer arrives on DogPile.com, simply enter the search term and click the green "Go Fetch" button. Arfie, the DogPile.com mascot, will fetch the best results for the search, compiling all the results from sites like Google, MSN Live, Yahoo! and Ask.

In short, DogPile.com works just like Google and all those other search engines, but DogPile.com is different in the way that the site donates money to help homeless pets.

DogPile.com Special Features

DogPile.com also offers other helpful features. DogPile.com users can download a DogPile Toolbar, which installs a DogPile.com search bar on the web surfer's browser.

In addition, animal lovers can opt to download an Arfie Widget onto their computer's desktop to "play fetch with the whole internet." DogPile.com's Arfie is also a "part-time watchdog," since the widget enables web users to "see what others are searching for with SearchSpy."

Special DogPile.com search tools can also be downloaded onto websites, allowing website creators to help support homeless animals in need via the DogPile Search and Rescue program.

So visit DogPile.com today, start searching and start helping needy pets!

This is a cool idea. It sounds similar to the service provided by Give2Network.com, but with their toolbar you link it to a specific organization (like ASPCA, PETA, etc). So how does this work? Where exactly does the money from dogpile searches go? What homeless pets are they helping? I had never heard of this before, but I will definitely be looking into it.

Great news - This program now has it's own website - Dogreatgood.com and are helping more pet charities! Right now the featured charity is the Petfinder Foundation.
