Diabetes in Pets

A cat was brought in to the veterinary clinic last week because it had not been using the litter box. The owner thought that the cat might have a bladder infection and most of us thought she was probably right. We did a urinalysis on the cat and found there was no infection, instead the cat had glucose in her urine. The cat had developed diabetes.

The veterinarian ordered a series of blood tests to confirm the diagnosis and started the cat on insulin. The cat is doing well on insulin so far. We will do regular blood sugar tests on the cat to confirm that the cat is receiving the correct amount of insulin. Good luck to the owner and her cat.
