Applying medications to your dogs ears can be tricky. There is a technique to applying ear medication so that the medicine goes in the dogs ear and not on the floor.

A dogs ear canal is in the shape of an "L" so it takes a certain technique to apply the medication where it needs to go. Grasp the dogs head so that the affected ear will tilt up, hold the ear flap and apply several drops of the medication. Most ear medications come with a long applicator tip, put the tip into the ear, you may not be able to count drops so give the medication bottle a good squeeze. While holding onto the ear flap, massage the base of the ear so that you hear a squishing sound. The massage will help spread the medication deep into the ear canal. When you let go of your dogs head he will probably want to shake, so it's a good idea to apply ear medicines outside.
