Losing a pet to death is never easy but taking the time to say goodbye is helpful. Cherish the time we have now so there are no regrets.

A sad thing happened recently, a dog that was being boarded in the animal hospital where I work unexpectedly passed away during the night. It was heartbreaking to come in to work to find the little American Eskimo dog but at least he seemed to have gone peacefully, asleep in his bed.

The dog wasn't old or in poor health, he played normally the day before and ate his kibble. These things are always harder to understand when they are unexpected. I'm sad for the family who had to be called while on their vacation. I'm sadder still after thinking about how they missed their beloved pets last day and how they missed saying good bye.

It is a reminder to cherish the time we have with both our human loved ones and our furry loved ones. I all of a sudden feel the need to hug my husband, and my dog.
