Pet Food Dilema

There are a lot of different pet foods on the market, some are good and some aren't so good. How do you know the difference?

Sticking with a veterinarian recommended food is always a good way to go, especially if he/she has recommended a prescription diet or a weightloss diet. Science Diet, Eukanuba, Iams, Nutro, Pro Plan are all good diets but not everyone can afford these diets. If you can't afford to purchase a "big name" diet but still want your dog to eat a good food look at the price, when it comes to pet food you really do get what you pay for, Purina is a good diet, look at the price of Purina Dog/Cat Chow and don't spend less.

You should also look at your pet, check the skin and coat, if your pet is not getting proper nutrition you'll see it in the skin first. If your pet's coat is flaky, oily, smelly, or dry it may not be eating a good enough diet and you may want to consider switching foods. Some diets are okay for one pet but not the other. What I mean is, you could be feeding Science Diet and one pet is doing great but the food doesn't agree with your other pet. Also, if you are feeding a good food to your pets their stools should be normal (not to soft or to hard), the stools should be less smelly then with cheaper foods and less frequent, which is a good thing for everyone involved.
