Wow Charla, I never realized how much dogs are really like children. I could of used these tips with my son! I'm not very familiar with training animals and we are looking into getting a dog. Can you explain what a "penny can" is?

Charla's topic offers some great animal care information and this is a very good article on housetraining. I'm sure the penny can she is referring to means an empty soda can in which you place a few pennies (or sometimes tiny rocks) and seal it securely with duct tape. If you pitch it near the dog, the rattling noise startles him and he stops whatever he is doing.

I feel silly for not explaining this better. Joy is right, the penny can I'm referring to is a noise maker - a few pennies in an empty soda pop can. You can shake the can or toss near the dog, this should startle the dog to make him stop the bad behavior and you jump in with the correction. Works well for potty training and bad behaviors like chewing inappropriate items.

You're right, Charla. It works well to distract the puppy, and while he's still standing there wondering what happened, you have time to guide him into the right behavior.

3 months old is still pretty young to be completely potty trained. I may need more info, how long is she being crated and how big is her crate. She may need more potty breaks and/or if her crate is too big she may feel she has enough room to potty in one corner and sleep in another. The crate should be big enough for her to stand up and turn around and lay back down. I hope this helps, let me know.
