» Feature Writer Joy Butler - Thin, weak puppy

Charla, meloniesaunt left the following post on the Dogs topic. I could not offer her much help. Maybe you have some suggestions for her?

Is there any genetic diseases that would cause my dog to be extremely skinny no matter what I feed her? She is very weak we rescued her and the vet said she had a broken hip but her front legs seem to be weaker than her back ones.I can't afford to keep taking her to the vet but I do love her and would like to help her. Thanks for any help!

In response to Thin, weak puppy posted by JButler:
This is so sad. There are many genetic diseases. I would recommend a high quality puppy food, i.e. Science Diet Growth, Eukanuba, Iams. Don't switch diets, start a good diet and stick with it. The best advice is to follow the vets instructions. Get a second opinion if you are not satisfied. Any vomiting or diarrhea? If so that would explain weight loss, the puppy isn't absorbing the nutrients. I hope this helps, let me know how it goes and if there are any additional details.
